Pearly Shell Cottage |
Ruamahanga Bay near Thames,
Coromandel New Zealand Book safely via Airbnb |
The owner writes in her Airbnb description that this may not be your
choice if you value luxurious cottages. We actually quite like these but
so we did this charming 1950 cottage at the top of a road with mainly
holiday bungalows, of the Coromandel ring way. Yes, it does look '1950'
but it is bright, light and nice.
The first half of the cottage is a
sitting room with comfortable chairs, and 1 adjacent bed room with a
queen size bed; the second half is a kitchen, sitting room with a great
view to the bay and left also the hills. A second (smaller) bedroom is
next to this room. This room also has 2 bed-banks next to both windows
so it is likely you end up sitting here enjoying the view. A bathroom
with shower, toilet and a washing machine is in the middle.
Note that
the 'bach' principle means you must bring your own linen although
overseas visitors can request for it, and you must clean the home on
departure.
There?s a LCD monitor (only TV with your own NZ Sky
subscription) with a DVD player built in and a selection of nice DVD?s
is present.
Note that you can reach places to visit (like the Hot
water beach at the other side of the peninsula) following the coastal
road (which can be quite narrow at places) or make a shortcut e.g. using
the inland Tapu- Coroglen road. This road is mainly gravel and in
several places only 1 lane, which will limit your speed considerably but
it?s very well manageable in a normal car, even with a bit of rain.
